Delicious Turkish Sweet Guest Post by Unorganised Mum.

We have this beautiful dessert recipe for you thank you to the lovely www.unorganisedmum.com. Thank you Songul for stopping by and sharing such wonderful sweet with us xx

In our culture we have this habit of baking for an army, the theory is "what if someone doesn't get wants more" or " what if we have uninvited guests show up" (not that we ever did growing up) so when mum gave me this recipe I could honestly say the ingredients were double the amount and over time through "trial and error" I have finally mastered this and probably only recipe.

Revani Sweet (tatlisi) - (an old sweet served to the Ottomans.)

 Syrup

Cake

Method

  1. Prepare the syrup first by combining the sugar, water & lemon juice - cook & occasionally stir til it starts to boil and all the sugar has dissolved - set aside to cool down
  2. Heat oven to 180c
  3. Beat the eggs and sugar in a large glass bowl til its fluffy, combine the remain ingredients but mix with a wooden spoon instead of the beater.
  4. Pour into a large baking tray - allow room to rise. (dont make the same mistake I did)
  5. Bake the cake for around 30 - 40 minutes, ensure the cake is cooked through and the top has darkened.
  6. Slice the baked cake
  7. slowly pour the cooled syrup over the hot sliced cake, sprinkle shredded coconut over it and serve with ice-cream

We're not much of a Baklava eating family, but when it comes to Revani and homemade icecream we cant resist. You can find more Turkish recipes and other Turkish ways of our life over at my blog Unorganised Mum
