Keep them busy at home these holidays
Having school holidays at home is just as much fun as going out. Sometimes everyone needs a few days at home just chillaxing.
Here is some fun things we do when we are spending some time at home.
School Holidays at Home
- Picnics at home. They can be as elaborate or basic as you like. A Vegemite sandwich on the grass can be fun.
- Make your own dinner. Pizzas, Tacos or Potato Wedges are always easy. Hot Dogs with everything in them are always on our holiday to do list.
- Create lots of beautiful pictures or art, stick them up on the walls and have an art gallery. Maybe Nan or a neighbour would like to come over and see the masterpieces.
- Write a letter, post card or draw a picture and post it to friends or family. If you can, ask them to sms the kids a photo of the mail when it has reached them, my kids love seeing their drawings on the other side of the country.
- Make and Fly kites.
- Have a paper boat making competition and float them in the bath or pool. You tube has some awesome ideas for paper boats.
- Make an obstacle course outside or inside if you have the space. Crawling, jumping, rolling, hopping etc.
- Go for a big walk around the neighbourhood and see what interesting things you can find.
- Have a movie night sleepover. Pull the mattresses out in front of the TV and watch some movies. Add a friend or two and lots of food for great fun.
- Put up a tent and have a Campout in the back yard or even inside. I love camping in the backyard, no packing a car load of stuff!
- Make playdough and experiment using different textures and colours. Add some scents like cinnamon or peppermint oil.
- You tube Origami there are so many different things to make ranging from easy to hard. See how many you can make.
- Have a disco at home. Decorate, make a playlist or use you tube or Google to find some great songs and videos to watch.
- Make Pom Poms. You just need wool and cardboard. Keep this going over the whole holidays. I love how they just pick it up for a while at random times.
- Have a Board games, Puzzles, or Lego day or part day. Pull it all out and just sit and play.
- Design and Make your own Puzzles or board games.
- Open a restaurant! Design the menu, make the meals and decorate your restaurant.
- Buy cheaply on ebay some clock parts and some white canvases and make your own clocks.
- Do some baking. Muffins, Cakes, Cookies, Pikelets, Gingerbread so many to choose from.
- If you dont want to bake how about buying some plain biscuits and just letting the kids decorate. Make some basic icing, add some different colourings and top with cake decorations.
- Tie some long lengths of ribbon to sticks and add music.
- Have a massive craft day. pull everything out and let them go crazy. If you have a table outside even better let them go wild.
- Make some pet rocks.
- Let em hang out. They'll find things to do!
